Monkey Kung Fu
in the Media
Monkey kung fu is very popular in the media. From animations, music videos, movies, games,
and books, it's amazing that the actual artform is so rare. Here is a list of just some of Monkeys in the media.

Master Monkey

In 2008, Dreamworks came out with a monster hit, Kung Fu Panda. One
of the principal characters was Master Monkey. The voice of Master
Monkey was by two individuals, Jackie Chan and his son Jaycee Chan.
The monkey was a Golden Langur and he used a staff. Master Monkey
was part of the Furious Five all trained by Shifu. The Five pays homages
to the Crane, Snake, Monkey, Mantis and Tiger styles of Chinese
Kung Fu.

Monkey King

Martial Arts film star Jet Li portrays the role of Sun Wu Kung, the
Monkey King in the 2008 American martial arts action film, The Forbidden
Kingdom. Written by my pal John Fusco, it's the first film that stars two
of the great martial arts icons, Jackie Chan and Jet Li. The film was
a blockbuster success!

Monkey Fist

Voiced by Tom Kane, Monkey Fist is one of the evil guys on the Disney
television cartoon series Kim Possible. The Monkey Fist character was
born Lord Monty Fiske, a British nobleman and world famous explorer and
archaeologist, who became obsessed with monkeys. After training to become a
master of Tai Sheng Pek Kwar (
Monkey Kung Fu), he also spent his family's
fortune on radical
genetic
procedures and experimental surgeries to replace
his hands and feet with those of a monkey. Many say that Monkey Fist was
patterned after Monkey Master Michael Matsuda.

Monkey Man

Released in 2004, 6th Generation Monkey Kung Fu Master Michael
Matsuda was selected to portray the co-starring role of the Monkey Man
in the film Sci-Fighter (later called X-Treme Fighter). Also starring Cynthia
Rothrock, Lorenzo Lamas and Don Wilson, Monkey Man jumps from
the trees to combat his opponents. Of all the evil characters, the
Monkey Man is the only one who survives and even captures the son
of the hero. The film was directed by Art Camacho and released by
Gorilla Pictures.

Monkey King

In 2001, a television movie called The Lost Empire was released starring
Russell Wong as the Monkey King. Russell Wong has formidable martial
arts skills as this loosely based story of Cheng-En Wu's enduring 16th
century story of Journey to the West.

Monkey King

Guys, I'm not sure how to explain this. It's either an opera, a musical,
an album or an animation. It's got me confused but it looks great. I
believe it's put on by the Gorillaz group. It's called Monkey: Journey
to the West. You might want to check out their website and let
me know WEBSITE

The Invincible Monkey Fist

In 1978, Monkey Kung Fu stylist Chen Kuan Tai played the starring
role in a Shaw Brother classic The Invincible Monkey Fist. At the
time, Chen Kuan Tai was one of the most popular movie stars in
China and Hong Kong and quickly became one of America's
most beloved heroes.
